FAMILY LEGACY LETTER #7

The Estate Summary Letter

This is your opportunity to leave clues or fine details regarding your estate. Your business and personal assets, liabilities, insurances, retirement assets, trusts. Those left behind may benefit from a short document from you which sets out the practical details they may need.

Make this as simple, or as complicated, as you desire. If nothing else, make sure your family members can lean on this to obtain the information they need. It's imperative for those left behind.

This is going to be your record or a starting point, the practical place to document all you own and owe. If you can't remember everything, that's okay. As long as you record, who should be contacted after you've gone. Who will know what there is and where to look. That's why this letter is key. Some people are very detailed and that's great. As long as we have a record of who the family should talk to, what to look for, and who are the people that will know.

It might be your accountant, financial controller, stockbroker, insurance guy, whoever. A lot of people get really tense and stressed and somewhat paralysed completing a form like this. (That reminds me of myself!) But as long as you've got written down who to talk to, that's the main thing. Some of you will love filling it out in all it's detail and that's excellent.
